Egg Freezing
Start Your Family When the Time Is Right
Because fertility and egg quality decline with age, many women choose to undergo egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation) in their late 20s or early 30s. This solution has helped many women postpone starting a family until the time is right. Reasons for this decision often include establishing a career, finding the right partner, and completing treatment for certain medical conditions that can affect fertility.
Egg freezing involves harvesting eggs from the ovaries, which are then frozen and stored at -320 degrees Fahrenheit. At the time of your choosing, the eggs are thawed and used as part of IVF (in vitro fertilization), a method of combining the eggs with sperm in a laboratory. Once the eggs are fertilized, they are implanted in the uterus. Our Voorhees, NJ, treatment center provides every step of this process.

Is Egg Freezing Right for Me?
Generally speaking, egg freezing candidacy factors include being in good health, being under the age of 35, and wishing to have children after surpassing a certain milestone in your life. Our Voorhees doctors will conduct tests to determine your candidacy for this procedure. For example, on the third day of your menstrual cycle, we will test your levels of the follicle-stimulating hormone and estradiol (the major female sex hormone). This will tell us the quantity and quality of your eggs and give us an idea of how you will respond to ovarian stimulation drugs.

Fertilization
Once the frozen eggs have thawed, we must fertilize them by combining them with sperm, either from a partner or a donor. This process is performed in a lab and involves either combining sperm and eggs for overnight incubation or injecting a single sperm cell into a single egg.Transferring the Embryos
One or more embryos will be delivered directly into the uterus using a syringe attached to the end of a catheter. In a successful procedure, an embryo will become completely embedded in the uterine lining after about five days.Pregnancy Test
After 12-14 days, Dr. Manara will perform a pregnancy test. If you are pregnant, you will be referred for prenatal care. If you are not pregnant, we can discuss undergoing a subsequent round of IVF or other options.
