No matter the patient, Dr. Dougherty focuses on providing compassionate, individualized care through evidence-based medicine. He highlights patient education to help remove the mystery behind infertility.
Dr. Dougherty is a respected authority on infertility, having co-authored 10 publications and 21 posters or abstracts. His work has been published in Case Reports in Women’s Health. He has also delivered three oral presentations, including one in 2017 at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
Dr. Dougherty has a special interest in the management of patients with unexplained infertility and absent menstrual cycles due to any number of conditions. Notable examples include polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. Our doctor is also passionate about fertility planning and fertility preservation through embryo and egg cryopreservation.

Dr. Michael Dougherty graduated from The Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. He earned the Luzerne Community Medical Society Scholarship in 2012, which is awarded to a medical student who has shown commitment to medical care in Luzerne County. He went on to complete residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick, NJ.
Dr. Dougherty was then accepted into the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship Program at Augusta University. This prestigious program admits just a single fellow each year. During his fellowship, he studied under the distinguished chair, Dr. Lawrence C. Layman. Dr. Dougherty’s research thesis was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Our Fertility Doctor Is Highly Acclaimed
Dr. Dougherty has won a number of awards for his level of care. In 2016, he won the System Based Practice Award. The following year he earned the AAGL Award for Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery.
Dr. Dougherty has also won awards for his teaching. He earned both the Best PGY-II Educator and Best PGY-III Educator honors during the 2016-2017 school year for his devotion to teaching first-year residents and medical students. During 2020 and 2021, Dr. Dougherty organized and conducted a reproductive endocrinology and infertility CREOG review for the OB/GYN residents at the Medical College of Georgia.

Michael's Life Away From the Office

Relaxing outside of work allows Michael to recharge and ensure he brings his best to each prospective parent who visits the office. He enjoys trying different restaurants with his wife Leah who works as a local physician. Dr. Dougherty also loves working in his vegetable garden and taking walks around Voorhees with his dog Albie.
